Hello all!!!
I have created this blog because I want to start some conversation. I plan to create a website in the next few months that will be all about Adoption. I'd like to collect letters from birth moms, couples that have adopted children, and adults who were placed for adoption when they were young...
These letters can be anonymous or they can include details about you and your personal life. I'd like birth moms to tell us their story about how they came to the decision and how they feel. I'd love to know what has become of their lives since. For families that have adopted, I'd like to hear what led them to adoption in the first place, their story about how they were connected with their child and a little about their family. I would love to hear from those that were adopted- their story, what they know, stories about their life, and what they would like to say to their birth parents now.
It used to be that all adoptions were "closed" and there was little contact between birth parents and adoptive parents. I've been told this was done for many reasons- it was believed this helped the birth mothers to "move forward more quickly". It was also for the "safety of the child", to shelter them from information that might be hurtful and finally it was believed that this would "protect adoptive families" from a birth parent changing their minds and fighting the adoption.
I'd like to help remove the "stigma" of Open Adoption. I think birth moms should be able to tell their stories without judgment or shame. This is the greatest gift anyone could ever receive and they should be respected for making that sacrifice. I also think that children who know nothing of their past would benefit from hearing others stories and learning how it might have felt for their own mother. I believe that hearing how adoption has changed families lives and answered prayers will help others who have an unexpected pregnancy to understand the blessing they can provide, if they so choose.
There are 44 million abortions each year.
44 MILLION ABORTIONS EACH YEAR.
44 MILLION.
I'd like to hope that our stories, our honesty and our exposure might help help to save at least one baby.
Please consider sharing your story. Please come back soon and I'll update with the PO Box, Email address and Website. I would love to hear from you!
